Screams of Terror Interviews Jami
Deadly
Miss
Jami Deadly is a full time performer, rationing her time between being a retro/fetish model, star of her own cable access TV
show, Marilyn Monroe impersonator, and singer/burlesque
entertainer. She currently lives in Dallas, Tx, and plans to one day conquer the
world while wearing high heels. SOT:
Jami, I have always had the “hot’s” for Marilyn Monroe so I guess that it is
obvious why I like you, not only do you remind me of her but you also have a
“dark side” as well. How did you come about
your image? Jami: Really just combining my interests and
passions darling! I've always been in love with old hollywood glamour, and the flip side of that time period, classic b monster sci fi movies, and thought it would make the perfect marriage! Something about paring the innocent blonde bombshell with the world of darkness and the dead just feels so right! Much to my delight, and surprise, people have really taken to my offbeat "shtick" and keep cheering me on. SOT:
What is your favorite horror film?
Book? Jami: Bride of Frankenstein, just for its all
around package of great style,
effects, and acting..just classic. I
have a book of Edgar Allen Poe's tales that I just adore..again what more can you say, classic chills and thrills! SOT:
Being a Pin-Up girl, do you have any posters or other items that People
can purchase, and if so, where can they get them? Jami: Absolutely honey..just check the "merchandise" page on my site. I will hopefully have posters, and my own calendar available one day, but at this moment, I have 8x10's, and t-shirts etc. As always, if anyone already owns one of the various magazines or calendars I have appeared in, please mail it to me and I will sign it free of charge. SOT:
Have you considered getting into film, and if so, what kind of movies would you like to be in? Jami: The only acting I have done so far is for my
cable access horror hostess show, Deadly Cinema, but it would be wonderful to get into film at some point! In the future, I would love to do a series of 1950's style short films or serials about the adventures of Miss Deadly. Of course, I am also open to doing independent horror films, and as other characters. I have been offered a few scripts in the past, but am always disappointed in the fact that the female characters they create are simply there for eye candy. I am all for women using their sexual power , but there is so much more untapped ability that these characters could offer to benefit the overall story.
SOT: What made you decide to become a Pin-Up Girl
and when did you first realize that this is what you wanted
to do? Jami: I had always loved collecting books by Elvgren and Vargas, but about 5 years ago, some friends pursuaded me to take a few photos myself and send them into two pinup magazine contests running. Much to my delight and shock, I won both of them, and haven't looked back since! When I first entered the pinup modeling world, there were models few and far between, but look at it now! It has really exploded into a whole cultural phenomenon. It has been a powerful tool for women that are not what the mainstream fashion world considers attractive, and has spawned many underground internet celebrities! While it may be a lot of hard work, I love creating art, and seeing the feedback from fans who appreciate it. SOT:
When your not in front of the camera what do you like to do for fun? Jami: Oooh so many things! Shopping for vintage clothing, fetish clothing, corsets and stockings, going to the movies, dancing, performing singing and burlesque, reading, eating cheesecake, collecting stray animals, lounging in my pink coffin, growing man eating plants, decorating my crypt, and being every inch a glamour ghoul! SOT:
I have always had a weakness for Pin-Up Girls (Hey, what can I say?) How do you
feel about being a sex-symbol and what do you feel is your sexiest body part? Jami: For me, I feel it is a blessing to be a woman, and embrace your sexual side. I love dressing up in skirts, heels, and garter belts, and showing off my curves in skintight dresses. Somewhere along the way, I decided to hit the mute button on society's ideal that for a woman to be liberated, she must act and look like a man. My own personal view is that women should use the power that they already own through embracing the differences we have from men (physically and emotionally), and using them to their full potential. I think my sexiest body part is probably my hips! When I'm walking in high heels, they sway seductively and command attention!
SOT: Are you married? Dating? (Lets see if we
can break some hearts with
this one!) Jami: Aww, well I suppose we shall have to..I'm
actually engaged to horror
and comic writer, Drew from Halloween Man comics. Us eccentric misfits
have to stick together. ;) SOT: What is your favorite musical group? Jami:
Hmm, well if I had to choose just one, it would probably be "The Cramps" but I love music so much, and have a collection of everything from swing/jazz to rockabilly, to 80's new wave. SOT: Where do you see yourself in the next few
years? Jami: Still modeling I hope, and doing alot more acting in film and on my own show. I also would love to tour around doing live singing and burlesque entertainment. SOT: How would I go about getting an autographed
Pin-Up of you? (I just gotta ask so that I can add it to
the Screams of Terror wall of fame) Jami: Just email me with your top three favorites
honey, and I'll see which
one is available for printing! SOT: Do you hire out for photo shoots and
modeling sessions and how would anyone interested in doing so arrange
a booking? Jami: I most definately do! If anyone is interested, please send me an email, and we can discuss details. SOT: What is it like being a Pin-Up Girl? Jami: Overall it has been grand! There is alot of hard work when you do everything yourself, booking photo shoots, and upkeeping the website and fan club, but in the end it is all completely worth it. Recieving emails from men and women who appreciate what I do is the lifesource for me. To know that you have enhanced someone's apprecation of the female form, and for art is just wonderful.
SOT: If you were cast in a Horror movie tomorrow,
who would you like to co-star with? Jami: I'd actually love to do a movie with the
other female horror hostesses
throughout time. Vampira, Elvira, and
me battling Dracula or something..haha! I think people might just pay to see that! SOT: Jami, for our readers out there that would love
to pursue a career as a
Pin Up, could you offer any advice? Jami: Well again, I would just warn them that it is hard work, but worth it if you stick through it! Carve out your own niche in it, keep in mind that it takes a while to get a fanbase, and get as many contacts in the business as possible. Develop a website for yourself, and update frequently. SOT: Can you let our readers know where to go to
see you on the web, ie web pages, forums, groups etc…? Jami: My two main websites and yahoo fan groups
are where to get the latest
juicy info! http://www.deadlycurves.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/deadlycurves/ http://www.modernmarilyn.com http://groups.yahoo.com/group/modernmarilyn/ SOT:
Jami, thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you Would
like to add or pass on to our readers: Jami: Thanks so much for the interview, sugar! I really appreciate it, and I'd also like to thank my darling ghoulie fans for their support all these years! Deadly Kisses!
